MLB All-Star Game takes over downtown Denver

Denver—This year’s MLB All-Star Game is taking over downtown Denver. With thousands going to the Mile High City, streets are closed and events are planned for everyday surrounding the big game.

Denver wasn’t preparing to host the Midsummer Classic game until a few months ago. It was originally planned for Atlanta, then in April as the Associated Press reported, MLB pulled the game in response to Georgia changing its voting laws to be more restrictive. A lawsuit filed by a non-profit organization representing small businesses in Atlanta about the game moving failed last month. So then Denver became the city preparing for the surge of thousands of visitors.

Going downtown over the next few days will be a different experience. Parts of Welton Street, 14th Street, California Street and many others are closed off for the events. You can see a full list and map of closures on the city’s website

Part of 21st Street is closed for MLB All-Star Game activities.

Events go through Tuesday, July 13.

Here’s a list of those events:

  • July 9 -13: Play Ball Park, Colorado Convention Center, 10 a.m.- 8 p.m. each day
