Honeycrisp-Apple tart with caramel sauce

This Honeycrisp-Apple Tart with Caramel Sauce will get everyone talking. It literally tastes like an apple pie but better! It has a light, flaky crust, sweet crisp apples, a lot of cinnamon and sugar – because why not – and is drizzled with thick caramel sauce.

Recipe features:

  • Sweet, juicy apples
  • Golden brown and flaky puff pastry
  • Decadent, rich vegan caramel sauce

Ingredient notes for this Honeycrisp-Apple tart with caramel:

  • Puff pastry sheet – Pro tip: Use the lines in the pastry as a guide to organize the apples. Be sure to also prick the dough with a fork to prevent it from bubbling up during cooking. (If this step is skipped, the dough puffs up and some of the toppings slide off).
  • Apples – Honeycrisp are my absolute favorite and that is what I use here! Feel free to use whatever you like though.
  • Sugar – Feel free to use either cane sugar or coconut sugar. Coconut sugar is unrefined and is the healthier option. However, both work well for this recipe. (These images feature coconut sugar, which I am a huge fan of. And in my opinion, when used, the end result is no different).
  • Caramel sauce – Don’t skip this step! It adds such a fun element to the dessert. My recipe is shown below.
  • Cook time – Cook for less time if you desire less of a crunch. If you want more of a crunch cook for longer.
  • Servings – This recipe makes 6 large servings or 12 smaller servings.

This Honeycrisp-Apple Tart with Caramel Sauce is best eaten warm, and can be enjoyed as a breakfast item or a fun dessert. It’s a two-for-one!

Honeycrisp-Apple tart with caramel sauce

This apple tart is made with just six simple ingredients and is perfect for any festive gathering! It has a light, buttery crust, sweet apples, and a healthy sprinkle of cinnamon sugar topping.

INGREDIENTS

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Let pastry thaw: Thaw one puff pastry sheet according to package directions; about 30-35 minutes.
  2. Make the topping: Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F. To a small bowl, add the sugar and cinnamon and stir to combine.
  3. Pastry: Gently roll out the puff pastry with a rolling pin, and add to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Prick the dough with a fork to prevent it from bubbling up during cooking.
  4. Egg: Whisk the egg together and lightly brush it all over the pastry.
  5. Cinnamon Sugar: Sprinkle most of the cinnamon sugar topping all over the puff pastry.
  6. Apples: Top with the apples in whatever pattern you desire.
  7. Cinnamon Sugar: Sprinkle the remaining cinnamon sugar topping all over the apples.
  8. Bake: Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed up.
  9. Cut: Remove from the oven and cut into squares. Serve immediately.
  10. Optional but highly recommended: Drizzle some vegan caramel sauce on top.
